10 Questions w/ Larry

1. What was the name of your first pet & what was it?   -submitted by Jaime
Well my first pets were a bunch of Sea Monkeys, but during the first day or two that I was "prepping" their soon-to-be tank with whatever powders provided, my sister's dog wound up eating the entire pouch of them. Straight from vacuum tight incubated security to the stomach of a dachshund.

2. You seem to be a natural bass player. You lock right into the groove of each song. Has bass always been your primary instrument, and are you accomplished at playing any other instruments?   -submitted by Warren
The first instrument I learned to play was piano, but guitar followed soon after. I played guitar for about three years before I even picked up a bass. I love playing guitar but just can't stand most rock bass players -they hardly ever play anything interesting, just the root of the chord about 1000 times- so I took it upon myself to come up with more melodic parts that at least please me.

3. How come you never play "If You Like" live?   -submitted by Steve
You must live in Manhattan. If we're playing in the city, odds are we only get to play for around 45 minutes and with a show that short, "If You Like..." just doesn't get the attention that many seem to think it deserves. Trek out and see us on a night where we're the only band and play three or four sets -it'll probably be in there if there's enough chanting to get it going.

4. If you could tour with one national act who would it be?   -submitted by Zoych
Right now I'd have to say The Donnas. I can't think of many other bands out there currently who actually seem like they're doing it to have a good time and not just a paycheck. I'm pretty sure touring with them would be a blast.

5. What is your favorite Future 86 song?   -submitted by Ashley
"Suddenly"

6. Is Vache getting a sex change?   -submitted by Roadkill
Uh, no.

7. WHY?????????   -submitted by Valerie
I'm gonna assume that this question is meant to be about why we recently changed our name from Pretty Suicide to Future 86. Don't get me wrong, I think Pretty Suicide is a great band name, it just isn't a great name for us. We make music that makes you feel happy & full of energy, and that just doesn't jibe with the word suicide. The name was supposed to be ironic -obviously not meant to be taken literally in any sense, but there were a lot of people out there who just never got it and some who couldn't get past it. Not only that, but many assumed we were a heavy metal or even death metal band based on the name, which is really way off the mark.

8. Now that you no longer call yourselves Pretty Suicide, are you still going to make the "devil horns" when you play?   -submitted by Mike
The mano cornuto? The horned hand? Excellent question... Are you kidding me? Of course I'll still raise it! The ultimate hard rock hand gesture can not be denied.

9. I saw you guys play in Boston about a year ago & loved you! The next day I ran into one of your fans in front of Virgin and gave him a skull & crossbones button to give you to match the shirt you wore. Did you ever get it?   -submitted by Jen
The girl from Bill's Bar! Turns out I missed you by just a couple of minutes and have been kicking myself ever since. Yes I got the button & put it on my bag that very day -wound up pricking my thumb with it pretty good a week later so it's been retired to my bookshelf. It was a very cool gift.

10. Are you playing the Forest of Fear this year?   -submitted by many
Come on, it's only January & it's way too cold outside right now to be thinking about playing outdoors in upstate NY during the entire month of October!
